Strangulated Inguinal Hernia with Ovary

An unusual case of right sided strangulated inguinal hernia in a two months old child presenting with irreducible and erythematous swelling in right inguinal region since 2 days. On exploration the sac was found to contain right ovary and fallopian tube which had become gangrenous. Right salpingo-opherectomy had to be done along with the closure of the sac. The swelling in this case was noticed by the parents since the time of birth which used to reduce spontaneously. This case highlights the fact that there should be no waiting and watching in cases of paediatric hernias due to high incidence of strangulation. Surgical correction should be done as soon as possible after diagnosis.
